Shedd Aquarium!

Let's learn about ocean animals! Recently, we went on a fantastic field trip to the Shedd Aquarium! This was a perfect way to begin our unit on ocean aimals. We saw the baby Beluga whales  the pacific white sided dolphin show!

We explored the museum…using our very handy map. The kids were giving us directions!

We saw the jellyfish.

We had a hands on experience with the ocean floor.
We saw sharks, clownfish (NEMO!!) and anemone. We hung out with our new turtle friend and discovered his habitat. What a busy day!

We enjoyed some time outside in the gorgeous weather…what a perfect day! Thank you to Miss Kilian for making it fantastic!

Buddy Reading!

An excellent way to help your child read at home is buddy reading! If you have older children (cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc) they can help your child read! We pair up with our 8th grade Mass Buddies for buddy reading. Usually, the older child's helps us figure out unknown words...or they can take turns reading. This works especially well when reading books with different characters!

Buddies can help your child sound out words:

track each word:

take turns reading as the character!

Hip hip hooray for...St. Patrick's Day!!

Mikey the Leprechaun came to visit us...what did he leave? Alphabet cookies! We made some of our popcorn words, our school name and used sounding out to spell a big word...crocodile!

We wrote a thank you letter to him....let see if he'll bring more treats for us!

We have enjoyed playing St. Patrick's Day "I have...Who has" games and "golden coin" popcorn words. We also wrote abour finding leprechaun gold and made our very own leprechauns!

Mikey, has visited us twice in one day! We wrote him another note...asking all about him. He surprised us after lunch with another treat...but he escaped us again! What did he leave all over our floor?

Finally, Mikey left us one more surprise: leprechaun spinners & graphing!

Dr. Seuss!

Dr. Seuss's birthday was March 2. We had so much fun celebrating! Check out what we were up to!

We read many of Dr. Seuss's books: The Cat in the Hat, One Fish Two Fish, The Lorax, Bartholomew and the Oobleck, Green Eggs and Ham...just to name a few!

We made oobleck from Bartholomew and the Oobleck:

We made Thing 1 & Thing 2 and wrote which Dr. Seuss story was our favorite:

We graphed (and ate) goldfish from One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.
